We mistake comfort for happiness...

Comfort rarely brings happiness. Rather, we can say that it never brings happiness.

Happiness comes from exercising our faculties, mental, physical, social, spiritual. When we do that, we get a glimpse of happiness. The more we do that, the happier we become.

Resistance, the voice inside our heads, keeps prioritising comfort over discomfort. It keeps persuading us, keeps whispering in our ears.

What empowers Resistance is the ambiguity related to the tasks that we need to or want to do. Once we remove the ambiguity, once we make them non-optional, our happiness index can shoot up significantly.

Another trick that Resistance plays is to associate happiness with outcomes. Outcomes bring momentary pleasure which goes away as soon as it comes.

On the other hand, the practice, the journey, gives consistent happiness, the happiness achieved from countering Resistance and pushing the boulder up the mountain, once more. That is where all the happiness lies.
