The modern career.
We are moving from the industrial era careers to the creative era careers and 2020 may very well be a pivoting point in the transition.
The industrial era was about the capitalist and the organisation. It was about efficiency and accuracy. It wanted labour that could follow directions. The individual had very little power and very little autonomy. What mattered was the certificate or degree which enabled the individual to fit into the economy.
That model has started to become obsolete now. Efficiency and accuracy are now expected from you and they don’t make you stand out. The universities have given in to greed and pushed the youth into soul-sucking debt for the certificate. The individual who fits in is no longer celebrated in the industry.
In this era, your learning, your portfolio, your income are all up to you. Up to how you show up as a professional. The remnants of the industrial era remain and most of the population will stick to them as long as they can. The default for the masses is to stick to the status quo. But for the instigator and the professional, that is not an option. They see the world as it is and as it is changing. And they adapt and excel.
