The labour of feedback.
When we seek feedback (or when we give it), I think it makes sense to be clear about what we are looking for.
Sometimes, all we are seeking is validation, and that’s okay. It’s kind to mention it though.
If we are seeking to improve, and if we proactive ask for someone’s feedback, then it may be helpful to lower our walls and accept the generous act.
On the other hand, when we are asked for feedback, it is our responsibility to deliver it in a manner that is helpful for the person receiving it.
Because both taking feedback and giving it requires a lot of emotional labour.
