The forces that hold us back...
…self-doubt, procrastination and rationalisation.
The worst of these is rationalisation. To begin with, it seems more innocent compared to the first two.
It helps us sleep at night, when we did not do our work. We find a way to make peace with that fact.
Repeat it enough times though and then we are able to rationalise everything.
We stop taking any action.
We end up back at the foot of the mountain, not even looking at our boulder which we are supposed to push up.
It takes a lot of courage to not rationalise.
It takes a lot of courage to look at that boulder again, to stand next to it and to start pushing it. It won’t move, at least not as easily as it did the last time.
But if we keep pushing, it would nudge forward and upward.
