The decade of the freelancer.

Technology has evolved. The next decade is going to be the decade of the professional freelancer.

Not because of Uber or Upwork or Fiverr but because of tools like Zoom, Discourse and Basecamp and learning platforms like Akimbo, Creative Live and Masterclass.

Seth and Tim Ferriss host their blogs on WordPress and you can too. That too for free.

You can have a very personal one on one or group interaction with your clients on Zoom and you do not need to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars to do that.

A lot of barriers to entry are vanishing. But if that’s the case, why isn’t everyone jumping on the bandwagon?

Because, one there is no bandwagon.
Being a professional freelancer requires discipline without a boss.
It requires us to build a marketing story and share it with the people who matter.
It requires us to identify the people who matter and build our story around them.
It requires us to go in circles or spirals, as you may look at them.
It requires us not only to be a professional at our work, but also to be a professional in marketing and selling our services.

It requires us to unlearn what we have learned in 12-18 years of traditional education. Instead of fitting in, we learn how to show up and how to put ourselves on the hook.
