Taking a decision vs deciding.
Thinking about a decision and actually deciding are two very different actions. The former does not necessarily lead to the latter.
We can, indeed, perennially think about a decision without ever moving forward. Especially when the decision is of consequence for us, especially when it might lead to a better life, especially when it puts us on the hook, there is a tendency to hold back and put the decision off for later.
Fear is the pre-dominant emotion in this state but we are unable to put a finger on it. Instead, we look at perfectionism in our decision. How can we have our cake and eat it too? How can we stay in the cozy comfort of our bed and have our solo trek too?
This inability to make the trade-off and realise that we are stuck in a limbo until we decide and move forward paralyses us.
The decision comes from the gut and not from the mind. The decision comes from the will to act.
When we decide, it’s not that all the stars are now aligned, it’s that we don’t care about them being aligned anymore.
