Say 'no' to notification.
How would you feel if you are working on something and every 10 minutes or so, some random person taps you on your shoulder?
How would you feel if many of those taps are not by a person but by a robot sent by a company that wants to sell your attention?
What do we have to be notified about? When I was in my teens, I had to walk to a PCO to call my friends and since each call was Re. 1/min, I would happily talk to them only for 10 minutes or so.
No hell broke loose. I was happy, they were happy. When they went on a vacation they showed me the pics and told me the stories in person.
That’s how bonds are made. Not by hearting an Instagram post. Not by ‘following’ someone. But by interacting with them, engaging with them.
Email can be checked once a day, just like you wouldn’t keep going out to check your physical mailbox, 20 times an hour.
Instant messaging is the death of productivity. It’s a disease that has taken the shape of a pandemic.
One of the best ways to bring happiness back to your life is to remove all notifications from your life. Go and check that email with intent at a scheduled time.
