Create. Edit. Ship.
When we create, abundance is the key. As professionals, we create around 5-10x more content than we might need at the end. A 400 page book generally has an initial manuscript of more than 1500-2000 pages. When we are in the create phase, we do not engage our editing mindset. We simply keep creating.
Once we have created enough content, we can put the editing hat on, which is a different personality altogether. Here, we care about quality. We cut and throw away most of what we have created until we only have what's worth shipping.
As we work on different projects, we start understand that it is a big cost to go back to creating from editing, and hence we create whatever we might possibly need before we shift to editing.
Then, comes shipping. This is about the deadline, because you can always create more and edit more. You set a time when the project will be delivered and you deliver.
The more we separate these 3 phases of creation, the more we will consistently ship our work as a professional.
