Building new habits.
Old habits are like 4-lane highways in our neural system. They go from cue to craving to response to reward in an instant. The number of iterations are the reason behind the efficiency of such a system.
On the other hand, new habits, especially those where we are affected by emotions, are like making our path through the forest. Even though the desire is there, each step is treacherous. No wonder, we switch back to the 4-lane highway whenever we get a chance.
The key here is to be patient and to break the new habits into doable action steps and then to focus on taking one step at a time. What we will realise is that it's the seemingly meaningless step that stops us from building a new habit than the more obvious one.
