It doesn't need to be hard.
We are ingrained with the doctrine of hard work since school. If you are not working hard, or worse, if you enjoying your work, you are not doing enough, you are doing something wrong.
The martyr in us wants to celebrate the struggle, the loneliness, and the tough times. And we despise those who get results without going through the pain.
But, isn't that a little masochistic?
The irony, here, is that there is no prize for struggle. Nobody pays you for the struggle or hard work you went through. Instead, the prize is for effectiveness. People or organisations pay you for what you can do for them, for what you make them feel.
You can enjoy the journey, whether it's about eating healthy, getting your business up and running, or anything else for that matter.
The key is to make it fun. Think of it as a trek. You can have fellow trekkers if you'd like to or you can embrace the solitude. But the whole experience of trekking is not about the destination, it's about the journey.
Here's how Tim Ferriss suggests you can make a diet or workout regimen effective in his book The 4-Hour Body. We can apply this to any goal we are pursuing.
1. Make it conscious.
2. Make it a game.
3. Make it competitive.
4. Make it small and temporary.
