Imposter syndrome
imposter: a person who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others, especially for fraudulent gain.
syndrome: a group of symptoms which consistently occur together, or a condition characterized by a set of associated symptoms.
What are the symptoms? We hesitate. We hide. We are hypercritical of ourselves. We just want to vanish into thin air.
But a real imposter never hesitates, they don't hide, and they are not hypercritical. They know they don't belong, they know it's all an act.
The solution to imposter syndrome is to act like an imposter, act as if you belong, act and put up the show. It's as much for the people you seek to serve as it's for you.
