Imminence!

The state or fact of being about to happen!

That’s how the dictionary defines imminence and rightly so.

Imminence is why you are able to attend a live yoga class but keep procrastinating on the YouTube video that teaches you to workout.

Lack of imminence is why you keep saying, I’ll read the book tomorrow, definitely.

That’s the ‘poverty’ of our intentions that Seth Godin mentions in his latest book, ‘The Practice’.

I have been constantly struggling with this poverty of my intentions all my life. Big words, small actions.

Recently, I did something that “put my money where my mouth was”. Instead of calling my friends and telling them that I want to do “XYZ” daily, I set up a system on beeminder, such that if I don’t do it before the deadline, it would deduct a dollar from my credit card. That was last Thursday, and no matter what, I have got the thing done daily for 6 days back to back now.

Try it. Experience what imminence means when others are not involved. It may change your job, your bank balance, the shape of your body and the love of your life.
