Hope and regret.

The amateur lives either in the past or the future. They regret the past and hope for a better future.

The professional works in the present. They know that neither regret nor hope is going to make their work better. They put all their attention in the work that needs to be done today.

It takes emotional labour to ignore the surge of hope or regret that may come when you need to do your work. The more you ignore them and focus on your work, the faster you can go through the dip.

Luck is not a factor.

Hope is not a strategy.

Fear is not an option.

David Cameron, Director of Titanic, Avatar.
