Do it now.
I read a blog entry from Jason Fried of Basecamp and I felt an urge to reply to the blog as it quite resonated with me.
Almost immediately, I had another thought, a very forceful one. It told me ‘not today, not now’. Yes, you should reply but you need to be ready. You should come back to it later.
Somehow, I caught hold of myself and realised that actually I am never going to come back to this blog and there is never going to be a better moment to share what I think.
I replied to Jason and to my surprise within a couple hours he replied back.
I am recounting this episode here to remind me and you to do that thing now.
Don’t listen to that voice which says ‘later’ is better.
When I was 60 years old, I went to my dad and I went, “Dad, if you had to give your 60-year-old self any advice, what would it be?” And he went away for a day and he had the whole family around the table the next day. And he goes, “So I’ve thought about it, and here’s the advice I’d give my 60-year-old self. ‘Do it now. Do it right fucking now.’” So that’s what I’d put on a billboard.
