Detached from our work?
Can we be detached from our work?
And if we can be, then is it really our work?
Steven Pressfield says that detachment from your work is necessary for becoming a professional. Elizabeth Gilbert says that your book is not your baby. In this case, I'm afraid I have to disagree with them, which rarely happens.
I believe that, especially in the beginning, you need to be attached to your project as if it's your baby. Otherwise, it won't survive the attacks of the rational mind, both your own and others'.
Once the idea grows up, once it starts taking shape, once it reaches adulthood in other words, we can let it live its own life. We can sell our company or let the publishing house take care of our book.
But until then, we fight. Because if we don't care about our work, who will?
