Being too strategic.

"Hermione! When have any of our plans ever actually worked? We plan, we get there, all hell breaks loose!"

~ JK Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

"You are being too strategic." "Let's just jump in and see how it goes." "This is different. Strategy doesn't work here."

When you are strategic about your work, health, or relationships, you would get a lot of such comments. This might actually indicate that you are on the right track.

Strategy requires emotional labour of sitting with the way things are even though they might make us feel uncomfortable. It involves making hard choices and confronting resistance.

Going with the flow is easier and most people choose that. And, as such, luck becomes much more of a factor in their lives than skill.

Strategy gives us agency. It allows us to make assertions and then make changes as we navigate in the direction we seek to go.

“I can’t tell you what your strategy should be, but I know that you need one.”

~ Seth Godin, This Is Strategy
