Action first, system later.

If you are trying to make a change, especially one that will improve your life, then there is a tendency to seek to build the perfect system.

This act of planning the perfect system seems like a noble pursuit but that is the worst thing that you can start with.

Instead, focus on the minimum viable action. The one thing that you can do right now that can change the status quo. Publish the first blog entry. Record the first podcast. Write the first draft of the any scene of your novel. Do the first push-up. Eat the first healthy meal.

This is significantly more important and difficult than planning the perfect system. The first action will lead to the next action and then to the next. In this repetition, your system will start taking shape. You would start to know what works and what doesn’t.

There would come a time when you would slip, but the momentum of these repetitions can help you get back, if you ignore the slip and again focus on the next action.

Remove the decision making as much as possible. Just jump in. Take the plunge. Feel the water soak our skin.
